Keto Z shampoo can also be used in fungal infections that are only fungal like pityriasis versicolor (P.V.) also known as tenia versicolor. Sun spots appear on the back when one is infected with the fungal infection of pityriasis versicolor.
Pityriasis versicolor is treated better by the combination of ketoconazole and zinc pyrithione that is found in Keto Z than by just using ketoconazole. Hair kinetic studies have shown that the ketoconazole remains in the skin for as long as 3 days when the shampoo is applied for 5 minutes to the skin before being washed off. Topical therapy needs the combination of ketoconazole and zinc because many times the fungal spores enter deep in the skin.
When the topical therapy is not strong enough oral anti fungal therpay like itraconazole has to be used for the treatment of Pityriasis versicolor. To avoid oral therapy which is quite expensive it is therefore suggested to treat pityrisias versicolor with the combination of ketoconazole and zinc as a first line treatment instead of using a shampoo that just has ketoconazole.
